Getting concrete basement poured

Trusses next Wednesday!!
We are buying the awesome wood clad windows too - it should be against the law what we are doing to these lumber companies. #bargains

Volunteer Concrete water proofing on Friday.  We will drop the lumber package off Friday and start framing the basement Tuesday (holiday weekend).

Lots of action!!

So. We have Blankenship Concrete guys out at the house this morning.  These guys, specifically Al and Brandon, are awesome.  They are going to fill the block with concrete.  Putting rock and vapor barrier in basement.  Another inspection today.  Passed plumbing yesterday.  Looks like we will pour concrete tomorrow.

It's really cool having tons of trucks at your site.  Affirming... Lol.

Plumber is ready for inspection.

Oh... We signed on with 84 Lumber today.  Waiting on Aaron Case to get the windows ordered.

Took a PTO day today.

Todays' Update

So, this morning I took the kids to school and pumped water out of the foundation again.   Yeah, again.  The block guys are thankful and I am glad they are happy.

I talked to Volunteer Waterproofing - Carol is really nice.  Found out that the block has to be completely done prior to them estimating.   Found out that I really (confirmed with Doug Smith) need to plan on filling the block with concrete - I will need a solid surface on the brick ledge for them to waterproof.   Doug told me that it's about a yard of concrete per 50 blocks.   Yeah, money just keep piling up.

The block guys should be done today - need to get Hipolito to return that hammer drill to Home Depot.  Will be working this weekend to clean up the job site (trash) and I may have a couple of truckloads of gravel dropped off to put into the basement.   May need to return some block to ACME too.  Lots of stuff to do.  Need to call Shae's dad and see if I can borrow his bobcat.

So, my new neighbor who's building across the street called me - she is freaking out cause her excavators are telling her that she's got a huge amount of fill dirt on the front of her property ... lots of digging.  I was able to talk her off the ledge. It's gonna be a hassle for them too  :(

So, I'm a people pleaser and I like rewarding hard work

So, the guy @ 84 Lumber really did an amazing job for us and has provided us with service and a good price.  However, we have a contact @ Witt Lumber that just beat his price by $3k.  It's a tough situation - but we're going to have to let 84 have a last crack at it.  We can't turn down that price difference.  Although I think some of the price difference is in Advantech vs. Gold edge as well as just shaving off of the truss quotes.  84 has bent over backwards for us - and have really helped us out when our architect totally screwed us over by being an AWOL idiot.  So, hope we make the right call here.  It's GO time. We gotta get windows and lumber package ordered by Friday.  We gotta get concrete in basement prepped for pouring the pad too.  Lots to do.

And, I balanced the checkbook - it's not as bad as I feared.  But it's not as good as we hoped.  We're at $32k right now - and not a TON that shows from the outside looking in.  we'll have way over $50k in this stupid basement that we never wanted.

Oh, yeah, the waterproofing people should be getting us a quote - probably another $2k that wasn't in the budget down the drain.  *sigh*

Let the running around town BEGIN

So, the block guys are doing the block thing - confusion all around.  haha.

Where is the rebar sticking up from the footers?  Foundation guy supposed to do that.  Argh.  Foundation guy doesn't think he needed to.   Whatever, now have to go to Home Depot to rent a hammer drill to drill and put rebar in the footers.   Bought a bunch of rebar from 84 Lumber and then picked up several more 4 ft pieces from Home Depot again for the garage.   Annoying.

Then, the block guy tells me that we are 350 block short - so, I gotta call ACME and get more block.  The block won't show up until 11 AM.   But, I went to Home Depot and picked up 35 4' cap block for the short side (right side) so that we can anchor to the block on the wood seal.

Oh, btw, we also need about 100 'bolts' to bolt the seal - can you grab that @ lunch time?

Shae working her butt off getting quotes and getting good prices.   Met with the Jeldwin guy today, Witt is about to rock our world with a quote (measured trusses yesterday) and Volunteer waterproofing is quoting the waterproofing on the basement today.   It's wild.  Seriously, can't wait to get framing started.  We think we're good to go.

Oh, met this crazy concrete dude named "Al" yesterday ... wow.  That's all I gotta say.  Wow. We need to get him there soon to get the block filled and the basement poured.  He's a good guy.

We have block finally.  Had some skirmish with excavator but I guess it's all good.  Met with crazy concrete guy today.  Drained the foundation again.  Nice.

Draining the footers

Not the most fun I've ever had.  Not to mention the fact that it downpoured on me. Haha.  This week probably can't start block. Supposed to rain all week.

Finally doing something

We talked to Pella windows today. They are beautiful but we probably can't spend the extra money.  We will probably go cheap and dress things up.

Shan talked to trusses today and worked things out.

Dustin dug out the site more for the basement.  We are feeling more and more at ease.
